Disney has announced Splash Mountain will permanently close at Walt Disney World Resort on Jan. 23 to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a new attraction inspired by the story and characters from the film “The Princess and the Frog.” More:
The post said additional information about Splash Mountain at Disneyland Resort will be shared at a later date.shared a first look at some images and details related to the new attraction. “Today, I’m excited to give you a first look at a new scene and some of the brand-new characters we’re creating specifically for this attraction,” the post said.
The log flume ride originally opened in Disneyland in July 1989 before versions also opened at Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland in October 1992. The original ride incorporated Audio=Animatronics from a then-defunct attraction, “America Sings.”Disney made the change “amid fans urging Disney to retheme Splash Mountain because of the racial stereotypes from the film it is based upon.”
The ride removed any references to slavery and plantation life but kept the cartoon characters, voices based on minstrel stereotypes and original songs.“Hop inside a hollow log and float through a colorful bayou as you follow happy-go-lucky Br’er Rabbit to his ‘laughing place.’ But be warned: Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox are in hot pursuit of this wayward hare.
“Then, brace yourself for the big finale — this musical cruise ends in a thrilling 5-story splashdown!”
