Disney has just announced a ton of release dates for some of its biggest movies, so here's why the delays are happening and every film affected.
Disney just made some huge changes to its release schedule, so here are the massive release date changes explained, including what movies are moved and why. Disney holds the keys to some of the most highly-anticipated movies of the next few years, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Avatar 3, and the upcoming Star Wars movies all being produced by Disney.
Why Disney Has Just Delayed So Many Movies Although Disney hasn't confirmed this, it seems most likely that these movies have been delayed due to the Writers Guild strike of 2023. Since the Writers Guild of America writers are striking, work cannot be done on scripts for some of Disney's biggest movies. Because of this, the studios either must agree to the terms and conditions of the WGA or attempt to wait for the strike to end.
On top of that, delaying Avatar 3, 4, and 5 gives each sequel more time to breathe. Avatar: The Way of Water was a massive box office success, and this could in part be due to the film's long theatrical run. Avatar: The Way of Water didn't leave theaters until nearly half a year after it was initially released, showing that the film has serious legs.
Why Deadpool 3 Is Releasing Earlier Than Planned When Other Movies Are Being Delayed Although most other movies are getting delayed, Deadpool 3 was actually pushed up. This is most likely due to the fact that Deadpool 3 has already been filming for a while. Since it isn't as affected by the Writers Guild strike, Disney may be moving it up in order to fill in the gaps of other released movies.
