Inside Disney it's 'Revenge of the Creatives' and 'Shields Up' to outside foes as returned CEO Bob Iger is taking no prisoners
More high-level marketing and communications staff are on the chopping block, according to a former Disney executive, who added that teams are always bracing for the next round of layoffs, coming this month, according to insiders.
Don't let the cozy cardigan fool you. Disney CEO Bob Iger, with KABC-TV LA's Leslie Sykes at a company town hall last November, is in fighting form. While Chapek's gaffes put him on the defensive with DeSantis, who also scored political points by battling Disney over mask mandates in its Florida theme parks, Iger's demeanor at the company's April 3 shareholder meeting underscored how he's won the upper hand in recent weeks.
"We love the state of Florida, and that's reflected not only in how much we've invested over the last 50 years — we've given back in the form of jobs and community service, taxes, and tourism," Iger said, adding diplomatically that he appreciated what the state has done for Disney before defending the company's right to free speech and accusing the governor of retaliation over"Don't Say Gay.
"Any action that thwarts those efforts, simply to retaliate for a position the company took, sounds not just anti-business but it sounds anti-Florida," Iger said.Still, one person with long experience dealing with public affairs told Insider Iger has to be careful in making political foes, particularly ones who hold grudges and are widely expected to run for president. is not backing down.
