Dish Network’s website and customer services systems went black in a major outage that started last week.
Tuesday morning, Dish Network admitted “certain data was extracted” in a cybersecurity breach last week that targeted its internal communications and customer support systems .that is still ongoing, saying the company had activated an “incident response” to remediate the outage and hired “cyber-security experts” to evaluate it.
The company said it only became aware the outage was caused by a breach that had extracted data from its IT systems on Monday, potentially including personal information, adding it is investigating the breach.
Dish Network shares have similarly slumped steadily for more than a year, after hitting a five-year peak at $46.53 in May 2021.Dish Network initially referred to the outage as an “internal systems issue,” which took down the company’s customer service lines and its website for multiple days, with the website only showing an error message that read: “We apologize for any disruptions you may be having.
