The deal comes as a relief to bar owners who were concerned about investing in new equipment to carry the games.
The announcement comes as a relief towould be carried for the first time by the streaming service. Amazon is paying the NFL about $100 billion for the 11-year contract.
“No sports bar owner wants to run around on Labor Day weekend buying a bunch of TVs. It’s the uncertainty factor nobody is talking about, and we don’t have a plan for it,” Bill Kokos, owner of Sierra Madre Saloon in Hampden Township, told PennLive a few weeks ago. On Tuesday, Rob Thun, DirectTV Chief Content Officer, acknowledged in a press release the deal comes at a time when streaming services are acquiring more rights to sports programming.
