The new Dior et Moi collection by artistic director Victoire de Castellane is inspired by sentimental Toi et Moi jewelry.
She’s been exploding conventional wisdom atfor 20 years now. This season, she took on the ultra-classic Toi & Moi trope—a standard dating generally to the Belle Epoque, but which was popularized by some of the great couples of all time. Napoleon and Josephine first invested gems with secret messages of love in the early 1800s. Then, the Toi & Moi circled back around in the mid-1950s, with the emerald and diamond engagement ring John Kennedy offered Jacqueline Bouvier.
Now, De Castellane is giving the notion a sci-fi reboot with her new Dior et Moi range. “This whole collection is an extension of what I’ve been exploring in color, lacquer, and geometry, in settings and in the mix of materials,” Victoire de Castellane toldThirty-nine designs—rings, bangles, necklaces—bring together unconventional colors and stones. But pride of place goes to the opal, whose mysterious and mischievous character makes it one of De Castellane’s all-time favorites.
