Redblacks suffer a case of the Double Blues in losing last road game of the season to Argos
For a good 30 minutes Saturday night, there appeared to be no stopping the Ottawa Redblacks – you know, other than the end of the regular season schedule in a couple of weeks.Their own second half bumbling and fumbling combined with the muscle-flexing of their imposing opponents added up to yet another Redblacks defeat, this one a 40-27 clubbing from the Toronto Argos at BMO Field.
The Argos, who have had the East wrapped up for a few weeks now, had nothing to play for other than their pursuit of the franchise record for most wins in a season. Doing a terrific Russ Jackson impersonation in the first half, quarterback Dustin Crum outplayed his counterpart, MOP candidate Chad Kelly, by completing 11-of-13 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown to put Ottawa in front 24-20 as the teams headed to their dressing rooms for the intermission.
Their first possession of the night was a five play, 70-yard drive that started with a 54-yard Crum-to-Justin Hardy hook up and culminated in a nine-yard touchdown toss to Bralon Addison.Argos came back with a 71-yard drive of their own to tie the game, but the Redblacks answered that with another scoring march that included Jaelon Acklin hurdling defensive back Qwan’tez Stiggers on a 37-yard gain and ended with Devonte Williams scoring on a five-yard run.
