Canada’s decision to ship a turbine to Germany for use on Russia\u0027s Nord Stream pipeline is unacceptable, writes Diane Francis. Read more.
The decision was described by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a sign of “weakness” and “absolutely unacceptable.” In Newsweek, a source close to Zelenskyy’s governmentfor the exemption as “bizarre and non-sensible,” and the decision itself as “morally bankrupt.”
Ukraine’s foreign ministry claims the turbine problem is fiction. As does Ukrainian energy expert Mykhailo Honchar, Indeed, even the Germans don’t seem to believe that Russia requires the turbine in order to return Nord Stream to full capacity. And even if it was necessary, existing gas pipelines running through Ukraine have enough spare capacity to offset the drop in supplies from Nord Stream. But Russian President Vladimir Putin built the Nord Stream pipelines to bypass Ukraine and pave the way for a complete invasion of the country.
