Authorities are advising motorists to use routes 1, 63, 76, and 676 to bypass I-95 in Philadelphia following this morning’s bridge collapse.
I-95 southbound: Route 63 west , U.S. 1 south, 76 east, 676 eastAn overpass section of I-95 near Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia collapsed early this morning after a truck caught fire underneath it., and the exposed steel beams supporting the elevated section of highway were particularly vulnerable to damage from intense heat, according to a Drexel University engineer who spoke to the Inquirer.
The northbound side of the highway completely collapsed, sending a massive concrete slab onto the road below, and the southbound side is compromised due to the fire,
