We spoke with SecretInvasion star Dermot Mulroney about his character President Ritson's motivations and his complex relationships with both Fury and Rhodey in the MCU series:
Nick Fury and Talos have been trying to stop Gravik's Skrull uprising in Secret Invasion. The show has been full of shocking revelations from the start, with Maria Hill's death, the revelation that established MCU heroes Everett Ross and James "Rhodey" Rhodes are actually Skrulls, and that Nick Fury has been secretly married to a Skrull for years. In the fourth episode, Gravik targets the United States President, but Fury is able to thwart his plan at great cost.
And how cool, like you said, each of these episodes feels more tense and well put together than the last, and it was incredibly well directed. Ali Selim is that director who put all these episodes together and it's going to play a lot differently than some of your one-off series. I think it'll feel maybe more so like one movie rather than an episodic per se. I don't know. People are really loving it, so I love that.
Can you talk to me a little bit about President Ritson? Because we haven't seen a ton of the character, but I have a feeling in the next couple of episodes we're going to get to explore the character a lot more. Dermot Mulroney: I can't answer that. It's such a good question and I have that question now. It's almost like with apologies that I wouldn't have been able to weed through... I don't mean weeds, but just figure my way through the file of information data in the Marvel world to encounter that question while I was shooting this.
Not knowing all the answers to the story twists, we love that tension of waiting for that to be decided. Or even in some things, if you think on a series like Hannah that I did, there's questions even after three seasons, after it closes and they're very tantalizing. Even Best Friend's Wedding does that, right? Where you're like, "I wish..." And people are still grinding on that one.
