On February 3, the City of Anderson declared a Disaster Emergency, citing a threat to drinking water and saying the city’s resources are unable to stop the flow into the wastewater system.

According to the declaration, the wastewater system in the city is being rendered unusable and is backing up.

On Monday, the Denali Borough, where Anderson resides, followed suit, declaring a Local Disaster and saying Anderson’s City Hall and School are under threat of backed up wastewater as well. The borough’s declaration releases up to $25,000 from the Denali Borough Disaster Contingency Fund to relieve the situation.

Both declarations ask Governor Mike Dunleavy to declare a Disaster Emergency to provide more assistance from the state.
