Vice President Mike Pence's Chief of Staff Marc Short defends Trump’s tweets, saying ‘the president's intent was not in any way racist.’ More:

WASHINGTON - Democrats in the U.S. Congress moved on Monday to formally censure President Donald Trump’s attacks on four minority congresswomen as House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said her party would introduce a resolution condemning his “xenophobic tweets.”

Representative Will Hurd, the only African-American Republican in the House, was a rare exception. “The tweets are racist and xenophobic. They’re also inaccurate,” he said on CNN, noting that all four women targeted by Trump were U.S. citizens. “We have a president who is throwing a match on the flame,” It inflames the worst of our instincts,” Senator Angus King, an independent, said on MSNBC on Monday.

“Aim higher ... They are American citizens. They won an election. Take on their policies. The bottom line here is this is a diverse country,” Graham said, adding he had spoken to Trump. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, Marc Short, also backed Trump in comments on Fox Business Network and to reporters at the White House.
