Iowa Dems say they plan to release a portion of the caucus results at 5 p.m. ET
The Democratic candidates struggled on Tuesday to cope with the limbo foisted upon them by Iowa’s botched caucus results, while the state Democratic Party scrambled to report and release the data — but made no promises of whenPete Buttigieg blitzed the morning shows, plowing ahead with his claims of victory despite no reporting of results from the Iowa Democratic Party. Joe Biden, meanwhile, announced a new batch of endorsements and dispatched his senior aides to the television networks.
“We have the results from our organization, and if you look at what we were able to do, what happened last night, the fact that this campaign was able to gather support in urban, suburban and rural areas alike, in counties that Hillary Clinton won, counties that Donald Trump won, we are thrilled and absolutely consider that a victory,” he added.
“Any campaign claiming victory is doing so inaccurately, and it’s just irresponsible,” Symone Sanders, Biden’s senior adviser, said later on CNN. “The reality is that a winner out of any of these primary and caucus states is determined by state delegate equivalents, and we don’t have any state delegate equivalents because the Democratic Party hasn’t reported anything.”
“We recognize that this does not replace the full data from the Iowa Democratic Party, but we believe firmly that our supporters worked too hard for too long to have the results of that work delayed,” said Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ senior adviser. “Today we will provide what we have to the Iowa Democratic Party to help ensure the integrity of their process,” he tweeted.
