The seniors, some of whom had battled COVID during the tour, were left to lug their equipment and baggage about a mile to another gate. Tom Oommen, the director-general for the analysis and outreach branch of the Canadian Transportation Agency, told Postmedia, “The pandemic struck and what we realized was there was a gap in our regulations.”
Gabor Lukacs, a passenger rights advocate, calls Ottawa’s new amendment “a sham,” and said Canada compares poorly to the U.S. and the European Union when it comes to passenger protections.
