Roads around Durham College and Ontario Tech's north Oshawa campus were jammed Tuesday and more heavy delays are possible Wednesday as striking cleaning workers
Roads around Durham College and Ontario Tech’s north Oshawa campus were jammed Tuesday and more heavy delays are possible Wednesday as striking cleaning workers plan to ramp up picket action.
About 70 cleaners who work for GDI Services went on strike August 24 and their union, Unifor, says picket action will escalate beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Unifor says the company has since issued lay off notices and locked out the striking workers. The employees have also been told they can keep their job if they cross their own picket line.
Right now, the company is using scab labour to clean the campuses, which the union says compromises the sanitary conditions of students, staff and faculty. The workers also say they tried to bargain, but the company refuses to offer cleaners a fair wage and reasonable workload. If you have found a spelling error, please, notify us by selecting that text and pressing
