The Halloween fireworks show has been running every year for 15 years, until this year.
Cache Creek Fire Department members announced on social media last week that they won’t be able to do the event in 2024.
“Unfortunately, due to high increase in costs, the fire department will not be able to put on the Halloween fireworks show the year,” says Fire Chief Tom Moe.“What can we as a community do to help?” said Janet Appleby. The fire department says they’ve been spending $5,000 a year for the Halloween show, most from donations but some from their association. In the last two years, the price of fireworks has gone up by 30 per cent.
“It’s definitely disappointing,” says Moe. "We've been doing fireworks for over 15 years and we get spectators from all over." Each year, the fire department also puts on an Easter egg hunt for the community and a Canada Day event.At this point, he says it’s too late to get an order in for fireworks this year, even if enough funds were raised.
