Six Deer Park student filmmakers hope the horror movie they made last year, “When Night Falls,” will win more honors when they attend the 2022 All American High School Film Festival Oct. 22-23 in New York City.
LA Shorts International Film Festival“I am very excited to go,” said Luke McKinley, a senior in Deer Park High School’s advanced broadcast journalism class, who was the film’s co-director, lead film editor and a co-writer.
Joining them will be four 2022 Deer Park High graduates who helped create the movie, including co-director Cesar Renteria and Alyssa Ferrell, Donny Perez and Gage Zabala. Winners of the 10th annual festival will be announced Oct. 23 at an awards show to be staged at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. More than $500,000 in prizes and scholarships will be presented, per the festival’s site,Upon their return, McKinley and Acosta plan to put finishing touches on the script for a new film that will most likely be shot during the winter break.
In 2019, Deer Park High entered the film “But For the Birds On the Roof,” which placed second in the “social impact” category at University Interscholastic League.
