A 5,000-year-old “talismanic” chalk sculpture found in the grave of three children has been hailed as the most significant prehistoric art find in Britain for a century
The Burton Agnes drum, a chalk sculpture decorated with motifs that was found in East Yorkshire, has already begun the rewriting of British history by shedding light on early artistic styles and social customs.Very few burials from this period in British history have emerged, with the exception of a handful of graves containing children. Adults of the period are thought to have been cremated.
