Democrats are aiming for a comeback in Florida, but polls show Senator Scott with a lead over his likely Democratic challenger.
Former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is aiming to help Democrats make a comeback in Florida with her challenge to GOP Senator Rick Scott, but polls show she may have an uphill battle before November's vote.Mucarsel-Powell, who represented a Miami-area congressional district from 2019 to 2021, is viewed as the favorite to win the Democratic primary to take on Scott. The Republican was first elected to the position in 2018 after serving as the state's governor.
The most recent poll, conducted by YouGov and CBS News from May 10 to 16, found Scott with an 8-point lead. The poll, which surveyed 1,163 likely voters, found that 45 percent of respondents planned to back Scott in November. Meanwhile, 37 percent said they will vote for Mucarsel-Powell.The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
