At least one fatality and multiple injuries have been reported following a collision between two private jets at the Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Monday afternoon. According to Kelli Kuester, aviation planning and outreach coordinator at Scottsdale Airport , a mid-size business jet veered off the runway and collided with another mid-size business jet that was parked on private property.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident, stating that the private jet involved in the collision had deviated from its designated path. Two individuals sustained injuries severe enough to warrant transport to trauma centers, while another victim was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital, as stated by Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio. The runway at Scottsdale Airport has been temporarily closed and is expected to remain inaccessible for an extended period, according to Kuester. The airport is a well-established hub for private jet traffic, particularly during major sporting events in the Phoenix area, such as the Waste Management Open golf tournament, which draws large crowds just a few miles away. This collision comes amidst a concerning string of aviation incidents in the United States within the past two weeks. On January 29th, a commercial jetliner and an Army helicopter collided near Washington D.C., resulting in the tragic loss of 67 lives. On January 31st, a medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia, claiming the lives of all six passengers and one person on the ground. Last week, a small commuter plane crashed in western Alaska en route to Nome, resulting in the deaths of all 10 individuals on board.
