That Groundhog Day feeling has descended on the LRT, beginning last Wednesday evening, when winter once again surprised no one, except perhaps the LRT architects, by appearing in Ottawa and, on this occasion, disabling a portion of the O-Train’s Confederation Line. In other words, we just don’t know. Can we fix it, or do we simply have a lemon on our hands? Similarly with the overhead catenary system, will train reliability always be at the mercy of lightning and freezing rain? Shouldn’t there be a deeper analysis of that system?
