We can no longer pretend. We’re long past embarrassment. At this point, we simply shrug and sigh, “It is what it is.\u0022

Undaunted, we fixed some issues as they presented themselves—like the chaos that once ensued when a passenger had the audacity to touch the doors. And hey, it’s been well over 550 days since the last derailment, and more than 600 since the previous one. Lots to cheer about there.

So we’re left, at least at this point, with something less than reliable. Think of Del Griffith in the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles, trying to convince the state trooper who pulls him over that his burnt-out and melted husk of a car is safe. “The radio still works!” he cheerily explains. When we’re readying to go to work in the morning and the forecast calls for freezing rain, we no longer think to ourselves, “It couldn’t happen again. They MUST have it fixed by now.” Instead, we shrug and preemptively head to the bus stop instead of the LRT station.
