KUALA LUMPUR: Business licenses from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) which have been given out to third parties will be revoked, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"I have a plan with the Kuala Lumpur Mayor and DBKL to ensure licences are only given to locals and to ensure traders follow rules. If there are those who don't comply will have their licences revoked," the Prime Minister said after a meeting with traders and patrons at Pusat Penjaja Madani at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman on Thursday .
"We cannot have just fancy big malls in a big city like Kuala Lumpur. We also need traders and hawkers too," he added. Also present was Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, who reiterated his commitment to upgrade facilities and the image of markets and stalls, which includes improving cleanliness, drainage and water system this year.
Earlier, Anwar urged all local municipalities and state governments to change the image of small traders and hawker centres and provide better facilities and infrastructure.
