What was the point of all that setup?
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Daryl’s departure in The Walking Dead’s ending was made pointless by The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s first episode. The Walking Dead wrapped up its 11-season run with most of its characters building lives for themselves in the show’s thriving communities. But unlike his friends, Daryl chose not to stay and headed off for parts unknown.
Daryl's Walking Dead Spinoff Makes His Main Show Ending Even More Confusing Daryl left The Walking Dead with two clear goals. Firstly, he promised Judith that if Rick was out there, he’d find him and bring him home. On top of that, he was tasked by Maggie with learning more about what’s going on outside their communities. But based on what was said in Daryl Dixon episode 1, all of his efforts were in vain. Daryl himself even admitted this at the beginning of the episode.
Dead City Caused The Same Problem For Maggie & Negan It’s worth noting that this issue is not unique to Daryl’s show. It also plagued The Walking Dead: Dead City. Like Daryl Dixon, it too deals very little with plotlines set up by the main show’s ending. As noted above, Maggie expressed an interest in learning more about the wider world, yet this reveal played no role in Dead City’s story, which revolved around the kidnapping of her son, Herschel.
