Students were dismissed early on Thursday and the school was closed Friday. Halifax Regional Centre for Education spokesperson Lindsey Bunin said the asbestos levels were not recorded in the open areas of the school, and the dismissal was a precautionary measure.“They’re still working on getting that information,” she said. It can be found in some ceilings, insulation, wall-joint compound, plaster, and some older floor tiles.
“I recognize that receiving this information is concerning. I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of students and staff is our highest priority, HRCE executive director Steve Gallagher said in a message to parents Thursday.Bunin said an update for parents will be provided on the weekend.
