For weeks, the Recall David Eby movement spearheaded by anti\u002Dvaxxers and freedom convoy people disrupted the calmness of Kitsilano at the centre of Vancouver’s yoga culture with weekend rallies and people canvassing for signatures.
For recallers, it is a symbol of government’s insidious, ever-expanding control over health-care workers that began when thousands lost their jobs or faced disciplinary action because they refused to be vaccinated.
The reality is that the majority of health professionals — members of well-established, well-financed and once powerful organizations — had already long abandoned the fight. Passed last year after the NDP majority forced closure, the most radical changes in the 248-page, 645-clause bill weren’t debated.
But they were correct in their assessment that the health minister and ministry bureaucrats will soon have unprecedented control. Board members will be appointed by the minister. The majority must be qualified in the profession. The others will be public representatives.
