Opinion: For two years, Anna Cain went to walk\u002Din clinics but got sicker. Finally, diagnosed with cancer, she\u0027s now on a wait list for a specialist.

The clinic doesn’t make appointments. So, she and her husband, Jeff, would leave home by 6 a.m., getting there long before the 8 a.m. opening in order to ensure that she would be seen that day.Sign up to know what's really happening by reading daily editorials and commentary by British Columbia's opinion leadersBy clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

By January, Cain was worse. At an urgent care clinic in Oceanside, she had another blood test and was prescribed an antibiotic. She blames herself for not being more insistent with the walk-in clinic doctors who, on the basis of blood tests, concluded she had an infection. Jeff called again Feb. 14 and was told that there was no one available to talk to Anna, let alone see her. Maybe next week. So, the couple, who married 52 years ago, sit by the phone, waiting and worrying.

“It is terrible that we are in the dark with absolutely no contact on updates and treatment options on this most serious life-threatening illness,” Jeff said in an email.
