CAN HOWSARE ACTUALLY REPLACE LEMON’S PRODUCTION?
Honestly, I didn’t pay that close attention to Julian Howsare until the Stamps signed him. He was just one of those guys who played for the Ticats and happened to be really good. They’ve had a lot of those guys over the past couple years, you know? He did have seven sacks and 30 defensive tackles last year, though, so we know he can make life hard for quarterbacks and with 62 games of CFL experience to his name, he’s proven he can play in the league.
I don’t think there can be much debate at this point that Mike Rose is the CFL’s top defensive tackle. The guy’s been a West Division all-star the last two seasons and was a CFL all-star last year after picking up seven sacks and adding 25 defensive tackles, including four for-loss. The guy just dominates the interior of the defensive line in a way that nobody else in the CFL can equal.
Look, this is the dream, right? We all remember when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers strolled into Calgary for the 2019 West Semifinal and unleashed a quarterbacking duo of Zach Collaros and Chris Streveler. The Stamps had no answer, and neither did the rest of the CFL, as the Bombers went on to win three straight road games and take home the Grey Cup.

The Stamps selected him with their final pick in the 2021 CFL Draft, and Hufnagel said pretty much immediately that he expected Hakunavanhu to go back to York University for his final year of eligibility. Instead, he stuck around.
