Funkanometry placed second in the popular CityTV series

Nanaimo dance duo Funkanometry came up short Tuesday night during the live finale of Canada’s Got Talent, edged out for the show’s $1 million prize by Prince Albert, Sask. singer Rebecca Strong.

, which is decided entirely by fan voting. The duo of Carlow Rush, 22, and Jacksun Fryer, 21, bested six other finalists but could not surpass Strong, who was awarded the biggest cash prize in Canadian television history for her version of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. Funkanometry were spectacular during the two-hour broadcast, with a routine that gave judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Trish Stratus, and Kardinal Offishall the ability to fast forward, slow down, and rewind the pair’s dance moves in real time. It was an impressive run for the two friends, who were the clear favourite on the show’s official social media pages but did not amass enough votes to win top prize.

Upwards of 100 acts from across Canada were in competition when the reality series premiered March 19, with Funkanometry joining a trio of Victoria talents — operatic soprano Holly Melville, comic actor Shawn O’Hara, and comedian Maninder Waraich — at the outset.
