With complaints spiking and some residents seeing piles of garbage for as long as three weeks without pickup, some city officials say it is only right to figure out how to reimburse residents.

The city last month changed its collection schedule from four days a week to five days, requiring 56% of customers to set out their trash on a new day. According to the city’s 311 service request data, residents filed 2,899 complaints about missed garbage and recycling in November. That tally was 12,223 in December. Lubertha Watkins, Wee Hawll’s owner, said her crew of four employees hauled at least two trailer loads of garbage on Monday around the Jefferson Boulevard, Davis Street and Westmoreland Road areas.
