Dallas lacked leadership on short-term rentals | Opinion

After a series of confusing answers, City Manager T.C. Broadnax stepped in to say he advised his staff not to issue a recommendation. He pointed to a June 2022 meeting, in which there appeared to be council consensus to refer the matter to the Plan Commission with the preference that the rentals be treated as lodging that would be banned in many areas.

In an emailed statement, Broadnax rejected our criticism of management’s failure to clarify its position as “neither fair nor accurate.” Frustrated council members asked for a formal staff recommendation last week because they didn’t know what to make of city staff’s comments.
