The pandemic pushed more companies to allow more employees to work from home, and many took advantage of the opportunity to relocate — or change to another remote job. In some of the largest, most expensive metros, a high share of workers had the option to go remote, and many came to North Texas — along with other places in the U.S.
“The nice thing about people moving to Texas is that the talent pool is getting larger and larger, and that starts to become attractive to firms,” Su said. From November 2019 to November 2021, D-FW added almost 59,000 workers in professional and business services, a gain of 8.9%, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In contrast, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago had net declines in those workers over the same period.
