Joshua: 'This news was obviously scary to hear, but thankfully, doctors were able to successfully remove the tumour.'

On Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that Dakota Joshua will not be available for the start of training camp ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The team posted a statement on Twitter from the winger, where he explained that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer during the summer and had to undergo surgery to remove the tumour."Unfortunately, I will not be ready for the start of training camp as I continue to heal from surgery," said Joshua in the statement. "I plan on returning to play as soon as possible this season and I am working hard every day to re-join my teammates.

Joshua also stressed the importance of seeing a doctor quickly and encouraged others to get checked for testicular cancer regularly. "As I continue with my recovery, I thank everyone in advance for respecting my privacy concerning this matter," said Joshua. "I thank everyone for their support and understanding."

Joshua had 18 goals and 32 points for the Canucks last season and re-signed in the offseason to a four-year contract worth $3.25 million per year.
