Sometimes you just gotta cut and run, blow something up and get the hell outta Dodge.
Queen of Jeans want to take you on that emotional ride, help you find wherever it is you’re headed. “I don’t care if I’m going nowhere / I could get lost from anywhere,” Miriam Devora sings at the outset of the Philadelphia trio’s cathartic new single, “Get Lost.” Across the track, Devora hones in on one central tenet of moving on: It’s never a linear path. Progress often comes with feelings of stagnation and insecurity, but if you keep on truckin’, you’ll get there eventually; it’s a journey.
Whispering guitar lines communicate with a murmuring bass line on the quietly simmering first half of “Get Lost.” When the pot inevitably boils over, the drums explode in fits of catharsis and the strings begin to scream. As the track cools off, Devora’s vocals and guitar-playing feel more confident, even if they’re still tinged with melancholy.
The song is paired with a Bob Sweeney-directed video that finds the band performing in a warehouse, offering supportive hands and taking baseball bats to easily destructible household items.“Get Lost” became my personal anthem during a time when I needed some sort of reassurance that I wasn’t a waste. It helped me process a very real and isolating experience of grief, and turn it into a positive and somewhat humorous interpretation of self-care.
