The Cypress Creek softball team recently received some hard news about the passing of former longtime coach Randy Kight. The Cougars are now dedicating the 2022-23 season to him.Right before stepping onto the Cypress Creek softball field, there’s a big blue Cougar paw print with the words ‘For You Coach KIGHT’ written in white letters on the heel pad across three line breaks.

Martinez, who was promoted to head coach last year, worked with Kight for six years as an assistant and said their friendship did not stop after he retired. She said Kight was inspirational, social, well-liked and super funny. After Martinez got the bad news, she was not OK. Luckily, Martinez was around family who was there for her and let her have her time alone. She noted that many from around the district have been supportive, calling and texting.
