Courtesy of Cypress Creek Christian ChurchSenior Pastor Bruce Frogge first came to Cypress Creek Christian Church almost 10 years ago. He had served at other churches before, but the first thing he noticed about Cypress Creek was how they treated their buildings.
Glenn Wilkerson, president of the Cypress Creek Cultural District, served as the pastor for Cypress Creek Christian Church for 35 years. He said the church made the decision to open all of its facilities to the larger community in 1978, inviting nonprofits they felt could help the church with the overall needs of the community, and creating a separate nonprofit called the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center.
In addition to the Forum Building, the church also has an annex building, an education building for Sunday morning classes, the Centrum, and a small chapel where weddings are occasionally held. “Two men named Richard Hall and Joe Cantrell came and said they wanted to start a Habitat for Humanity chapter,” Wilkerson said. “Their first office was a filing cabinet in one of our church classrooms.”
“I think that really speaks to this congregation facing what might be some community backlash,” Frogge said. “Today, I would hope there wouldn’t be that anymore, but in that moment there was, and this church said this is what we were called to do and we are going to do it.” Frogge said the church’s vision is putting love first in all things and the church’s mission is to help individuals and families learn to live a “love first life.”
