THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay will provide curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste beginning this week.Recycling collection will move one day earlier than usual during the week of Nov. 7, due to Remembrance Day, the city noted.
The leaf and yard waste must be put out for collection in Kraft paper bags, which are available at most hardware and grocery stores, the city said.Branches and brush can also be left at the curb in bundles, which must be no more than 39 inches long and 24 inches in diameter, and tied using string or rope.Manager of solid waste and recycling services Jason Sherband said in a statement the program brings multiple benefits for residents.
“The organic waste that is picked up is added to the compost pile at the city’s Solid Waste & Recycling Facility. The resulting rich compost is made available to residents free of charge at certain times of year for their flower gardens and lawns.” Residents can contact the city’s infrastructure and operations dispatch at 625-2195 for more information.
