New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Monday that would pave the way for key members of Congress to acquire President Trump’s state tax returns
Cuomo, a Democrat, approved a pair of bills that would direct the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to release state tax returns for the president and vice president if they file state tax returns in New York, if requested by the chairs of three congressional committees.
The bill would also allow the chairs to request the tax returns of New York’s members of Congress, as well as members of the president’s staff and cabinet officials who are from the state. The legislation would also apply to state elected officials and judges. “This bill gives Congress the ability to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities, strengthen our democratic system and ensure that no one is above the law,” Cuomo said in a statement.SUVs are bumper-to-bumper on dealer lots, with more on the wayComment
