Cumberland County needs a commissioner who is honest, who has experience and is in touch with the community.
Confused? What are the duties of our county commissioners? Some of the candidates for county commissioner claim to have the ability to eliminate property taxes. The problem with this approach is that when one tax is eliminated, where does the county come up with replacement revenue to support the invaluable services provided to county residents.
Several candidates want to eliminate voting machines and return to antiquated paper ballots. The county does a mock election before any machines are utilized. Results of the mock election are audited, and the machines are proven to be accurate. Voting machines produce a paper ballot that must be reviewed by the voter to ensure that everything is correct. Returning to paper ballots would allow for increased opportunities for error and abuse.
Also of interest, are candidates who identify erroneous programs such as the “Taxpayer Protection Plan.” No such program exists! Pay attention folks, you will see countless assertions of disinformation, empty promises, and accusations against fellow candidates.
