First two games of the best-of-seven series will be played in the Nickel City

The Greater Sudbury Cubs are set to host the Soo Thunderbirds for the first two games of their best-of-seven series in the playoff semi-finals of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The first game is set for Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, with the second game scheduled for Friday, also at 7:05 p.m. “The Cubs and T-Birds have played some close games this season, including the last two times these two arch-rivals met on Jan. 18 and 19 in a home-and-home series,” the club said in a news release. “The Cubs won 4-3 on home ice before dropping a close 3-2 decision the next day in the Soo.”

With two goals and two assists each, Cubs forwards Nolan Newton and Hudson Chitaroni led the Cubs in scoring against the Soo this season. In the four games the two teams played against each other this season, Cubs goals also came from Ben Lacroix and Sam Assinewai, with two goals each, as well as Ben Harris, Nohan Kohan and Brock Houser, who had singles.
