The Taiwan-born Canadian citizen with a US$11.8-billion fortune is a cofounder of Alibaba Group, a Chinese multinational tech company specializing in e-commerce. The 96-year-old billionaire and philanthropist Jim Pattison is worth US$11.4 billion as the sole owner of the Jim Pattison Group, which is involved in packaging, food and entertainment. He has donated more than $100 million to numerous hospital foundations in Canada. The Canadian media magnate is worth US$10.2 billion, and has the U.K. hereditary title of Baron Thomson of Fleet. He is the chairman of Thomson Reuters, which was formed when the Thomson Corporation acquired Reuters Group in 2008. Taylor Thomson is worth U.S. $10.2 billion and owns 14 per cent of The Woodbrige Company, her family’s holding company based in Ontario. Both her and her brothers David and Peter inherited part of the Thomson family fortune after their father’s death in 2006. As one of six billionaire heirs to the media and publishing empire founded by his grandfather Roy Thomson, he is worth US$10.2 billion. Peter and siblings Taylor and David each hold 14-per-cent stakes in The Woodbridge Company. Tobias Lütke is a German-Canadian entrepreneur worth US$8.9 billion. He is the co-founder and CEO of Shopify, an e-commerce company based in Ottawa. Wealthy businesswoman Linda Campbell is worth US$8 billion and holds an 11-per-cent stake in The Woodbrige Company, which manages the fortunes of seven grandchildren of Canadian media magnate Roy Thomson. The Ontario-based company owns a two-thirds stake in Thomson Reuters, a financial data and services provider. Sister to Linda Campbell, Gaye Farncombe is worth US$8 billion and one of six billionaire heirs to the media and publishing empire founded by her grandfather Roy Thomson. The family's holdings also include The Globe and Mail, plus ownership stakes in the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets. Dennis J."Chip" Wilson founded Lululemon Athletica, the popular yoga athletic brand he launched in Vancouver in 2000. Despite stepping away from the company in 2015, he still holds a 7 per cent stake and is worth US$6.8 billion. As the co-founder and chairman of Alimentation Couche-Tard, the Canadian convenience store and gas station operator, Alain Bouchard is worth US$6.6 billion. After founding Mattamy Homes in 1978, the company has gone on to build more than 135,000 houses since and has become Canada’s largest residential builder, also moving south of the border. Gilgan remains the CEO of the company and is worth US$6.4 billion. As a certified accounted who claimed his wealth through cryptocurrency, he began his career at Ernst & Young before starting a law practice catering to online gambling and cryptocurrency clients. Hoegner owns an estimated 13 per cent of Tether, which is the largest issuer of crypto stablecoins. Today he is worth US$6.2 billion.
