Crown appeals acquittals of two men in murder of Cranbrook, B.C., couple
In April, after a long and difficult trial, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Arne Silverman found Colin Raymond Correia and Sheldon Joseph Hunter not guilty of the 2010 first-degree murders of Leanne Laura MacFarlane, 43, and Jeffrey Todd Taylor, 42.
It was believed to be a drug-related slaying but the judge said the victims were not involved in the drug trade. The judge noted that the two gunmen were disguised at the time of the shootings and two witnesses who lived next to the premises and who were not shot, were unable to identify them. In a notice of appeal filed in the B.C. Court of Appeal, the Crown said that the trial judge erred in law by relying on hearsay statements or other inadmissible evidence in concluding that he had a reasonable doubt as to the defendants’ guilt.Article content
