Crosby ISD superintendent Paula Patterson explains how the school year and school days would run based on a 4-day school week proposal for the district. Patterson said the move was to attract more teachers to the suburban district."I’m going to put a disclaimer out," Superintendent Paula Patterson told the crowd."We are seriously considering this but no decision has been made."
A local pastor said he had responded with his church to cries from help from the district to help with discipline problems in the middle school, but didn't think he nor his family could support the 4-day proposal.Patterson outlined two main reasons for studying the proposal: students deserve the very best teachers, and staff members deserve the best work environment.
“We have amazing teachers in this district and we want to keep them, but they are burned out and overwhelmed,” she said.“Why do we have a shortage? This feels like a band aid to the problem,” said one mother.“We don’t have the funds or the finances to do that,” Patterson said.
