Why: The wacky world of Captain Underpants creator Dav Pilkey is the basis for Cat Kid Comic Club, a musical based on Pilkey’s bestselling Dog Man series of graphic novels for kids. A spin-off from Dog Man: The Musical, this Off-Broadway adaptation is centred around the characters Cat Kid and Molly Pollywog, who are joined in the musical with a message by baby frogs who learn how to make their own comics. Where entertainment for kids is concerned, you won’t find much better than this.
EYES OF THE BEAST: CLIMATE DISASTER SURVIVOR STORIES Where: The Phoenix Theatre, University of Victoria, 3800 Finnerty Rd.Why: The documentary-like play Eyes of the Beast: Climate Disaster Survivor Stories, a journalism-theatre hybrid helmed by UVic Theatre alumni Chelsea Haberlin , with reportage by writing department students in the Climate Disaster Program, winds down its week-long run at The Phoenix Theatre this week with a distinct sense of momentum.
