Ocean Creek RCMP has ruled out criminality in its investigation of a fatal house fire in Whiskey Creek on Wednesday. A woman in her 60s was found dead at the scene.
“The ongoing investigation has determined the person located at the scene died as a result of the fire and criminality is not suspected in the death,” police said in a statement.
The cause of the house fire about 16 kilometres west of Parksville has not been determined and the scene has been turned over to Coombs-Hilliers Fire Department to continue the investigation, RCMP said. Area fire departments and the Oceanside RCMP responded to the fire on Marples Road about 1 a.m. Wednesday and found the house fully engulfed.
