Through the Foundation, Sobers, an icon of the game and widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, hopes to give aspiring players the opportunity to maximise their potential through world class coaching and mentorship. The Foundation will strive to raise an endowment of $50 million over the next five years to be built upon by future supporters who share Sir Garry’s long held values of focusing on talent and character without regard to race or family background. The initiative has been launched with the support of Bravia Capital, a private investment firm headquartered in New York, established in 2000 by Bharat Bhise.
“As a mere lad in short pants, I found myself playing with my friends in the streets and getting a message that I had been called up to play for West Indies. Many people helped me to manage that massive transition, and so I am honoured to have an opportunity to give back to the cricket community. It is indeed a privilege to work with Bharat Bhise and Bravia Capital.”Bhise added: “There have been a number of extraordinary sportsmen in numerous sports through time.
