Crews rescued two children, one of whom was found via helicopter, who were drowning at Marquette Park Beach on Tuesday, officials said. At 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Gary beach patrol and Gary Fire Department units were informed that two children — an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl — were drowning, according to a press release from the Gary Police Department.The boy was saved by lifeguards, but the girl was not nearby. The beach patrol and fire department units began a chain search in the water while a Lake County Sheriff’s Department helicopter searched overhead, according to the release.
Crew on the helicopter saw the girl and helped direct members of other units to help her. The girl was saved from the water, officials performed CPR and she was immediately loaded into a waiting ambulance, according to the release.The girl was taken to the hospital, according to the release, but details about her condition were not immediately known.Advertisement
