Prescott is entering his seventh season in Dallas and is well aware of the one thing missing on his resume: postseason success.“Obviously knowing the quarterbacks that played specifically for this team and knowing their legacy,” Prescott said. “And the ones that we hold at the highest standard are the ones that have Super Bowl rings. It starts there for me, trying to fill the shoes of those guys that have come before me and do something for this organization that hasn’t been done in a long time.
Prescott was obviously referring to Roger Staubach, who quarterbacked the Cowboys to Super Bowl victories in 1971 and 1977, and Troy Aikman, who led Dallas to its other three championships in 1992, 1993 and 1995. Super Bowl talk usually happens at Cowboys training camp, but it was a particular topic of conversation Wednesday after head coach Mike McCarthy pointed out before the team’s second camp practice that he believes defenses win championships but quarterbacks ultimately determine who wins the Super Bowl.
“This offense is built around making the quarterback successful, and this is Dak Prescott’s offense,” McCarthy said. “I think you see him really taking ownership of that. … I think he is a guy who emulates exactly what you are looking for. He is always working in all areas. He is improving everywhere.”
