will throw to new wide receivers James Washington and Jalen Tolbert in a 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 setting. They will develop their timing during the competitive situations, conversing between practice periods to hone the nuances of their connection.Washington, a veteran signed in March, watched practice while wearing a protective boot over his left foot. Tolbert, a rookie third-round pick, worked to the side with director of rehabilitation Britt Brown. Neither injury is considered serious.
Coach Mike McCarthy expressed hope that Tolbert will practice next week when the Cowboys continue organized team activities. Their first two of eight OTA practices were held Tuesday and Wednesday inside Ford Center at The Star.He won’t practice next week, so it seems plausible he will miss all eight OTAs. In the locker room after practice, the former Pittsburgh Steelers vertical threat declined to detail the exact nature of the injury.
Washington acknowledged that OTAs prove an important chance to work with Prescott. McCarthy hopes the arrangement will minimize his starters’ exposure to injury in the preseason. Top players can find the quality reps they need on the practice field and rest up for the Sept. 11 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It’s really risk assessment, a lot of it, to work certain players in a practice environment as opposed to playing them in a game,” McCarthy said. “So, that’s the driving force for me in talking with the other two head coaches who have done this lot.”Markquese Bell, an undrafted rookie safety from Florida A&M, intercepted a pass on Wednesday’s final full-speed play, jumping a shallow route in the left flat. He has impressed so far and already emerged as a favorite to make the 53-man roster.
