Jones reiterated the respect he has for the former Cowboys coach during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] Tuesday.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones visits with his former Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson during pregame warmups before the Los Angeles Chargers game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, October 16, 2023.
In recent seasons, the short-yardage play has become a polarizing topic in NFL circles. The play has Jones’ stamp of approval.“Well, I was surprised. I’m all for it and I liked the play,” Jones said Tuesday. “I think Dak is an excellent sneaker and I was just surprised that we were stopped. But I completely agreed that that’s the play to run.”
“I’m okay with it. I like the play,” Jones said. “I think there’s a place for the play and I think you’ve got some options to run off of. People talk about the injury to the quarterback. Do the Tush Push with somebody other than the starting quarterback under center. There’s a lot of ways to approach this thing, but I’m all for implementing the emphasis on the scrum, the traditional scrum that you’d normally think the NFL and football in general, in colleges, tried to avoid.
